The Chiefs won the game 37-29 against the Blues, and wow was it a great game to watch and the Chiefs came back from a 14 point deficit.
The blues had a great start and that start made it difficult for the Chiefs to get any momentum going. The Chiefs new coach Warren Gatland early on showed his new plans for the chiefs with a great defensive line rushing up to kill the ball, and it worked most of the time except when the attacking team don’t play with structures and start using offloads. Basically the defensive structures are great to play against international teams from the Northern Hemisphere but not always super rugby.
The attacking structures also was set for the international game in the first half. As soon they came into the 22 m area of the blues they started playing crash balls of nine and the defense was able to stop the attack with ease.
In the second half they brought on my man of the mach Aaron Cruden, and wow did he announce his return to super rugby with a bang. He gave their attack allot of flair and mad it possible to get the balls to the wings. He came running onto the ball and got his team playing of the front foot. Before they started I believe that Anton Lienert-Brown would be the super sub and that he would make the biggest difference, But Aaron proved me wrong.
The other great player for the chiefs was Locklan Boshier he was every where. Made allot of tackles was a menace in the breakdown for the Blues and even outplayed Sam Cane which is no easy thing to do.
I believe that if the Chiefs is going to have a great season they will need to keep Aaron fit so that he can run the show for them.
